The media called them “weak”, a slew of Canadian teams beat them before they even left the country and Olympic favourites Sweden, Czechoslovakia and Switzerland considered them a joke.
The Royal Canadian Air Force Flyers were regarded as a national embarrassment - a ragtag team of amateurs thrown together at the last minute to represent Canada in hockey at the 1948 Olympics.
But these weren’t just any men. They were pilots, gunners and navigators who had survived the brutal air offensive of WW II that killed half a million and turned the tide against Hitler.
And what they achieved in the winter of 1948 was nothing less than a miracle - still one of the greatest underdog stories in Olympic history.
Against All Odds: The RCAF Flyers will take an extraordinary journey from the darkest days of WW II to the completely unexpected triumph by the RCAF Flyers at St. Moritz in Switzerland. In this Remembrance Day documentary we’ll tell the inside story of the Flyer’s dramatic quest for gold and their unexpected win against all odds.
